Sam Ho (he/they) is a filmmaker based in Providence, RI whose work explores an eclectic array of subjects, from a funeral service held by British clowns to the generational legacy of the Cultural Revolution in China. What unites his seemingly disparate works is a focus on intimate stories and an “absurdist humanist” sensibility. His feature-length documentary debut, Hero Camp!, which follows three introspective queer teens at a fantasy LARP camp, recently premiered at the Seattle Queer Film Festival and is currently screening across the United States.
He has collaborated with organizations including NFL Films, Johnson & Wales University, and the Green River Music Festival, and was selected for last year’s PBS Ignite Filmmakers Program. He will develop his next film through RISD’s Digital+Media MFA program.
When he’s not working, you can find him playing the kazoo and guitar simultaneously, developing clown shows, and traveling the world with a backpack and camcorder.
